Ryp Labs is an innovative postharvest solution company that is on a mission to put an end to food waste. To tackle this problem head-on, Ryp Labs developed a biomimicry solution that comprises a safe formulation, which can be applied to a variety of surfaces, including food-stickers, to increase the shelf-life of fresh produce, including fruits, vegetables, meat, seafood and more. Ryp Labs’ food-safe and award-winning stickers have been shown to double the shelf-life of certain fresh produce, by simply peeling and applying them to loose produce such as pears or tomatoes, or applying them directly to the packaging of smaller fruits, such as berries and grapes.

HOW THE INNOVATION WAS INVENTED

If food waste was a country, it would have the 3rd largest carbon footprint behind China and the U.S. Up to 50% of the food we produce goes to waste, and these losses are incurred in every stage of the supply chain. As a result, there is a dire need for simple and scalable solutions that can safely extend the shelf life of food. To tackle this problem head-on, Ryp Labs developed a biomimicry solution that comprises a safe bioactive formulation, which is applied to food-stickers to increase shelf life of fresh produce. Our food-safe and award-winning stickers have been shown to double the shelf life of fresh produce by simply peeling and applying them directly to the produce, or its packaging.

Our simple solution has the potential and commercial viability to help farmers, governments, companies, and communities provide food sustainably as well as tackle the issue of climate change. Our technology will (1) significantly reduce fresh food waste by safely extending the shelf-life, thus keeping it out of landfills, and (2) maintain the food’s freshness longer, thus allowing many communities, especially vulnerable ones, to consume fresh, natural, and healthy foods previously inaccessible.
